SM Entertainment has released another wonderful track for their STATION project. This time they have brought in MFBTY’s Yoon Mi Rae, and Canadian songwriter Matthew Tishler, who has written songs for EXO, Taeyeon, Kyuhyun, SHINee and TVXQ to collaborate with in house composer Kenzie who has created such hits as SNSD‘s ‘Oh’, BoA‘s ‘My Name’, and f(x)‘s debut song ‘La Cha Ta’ plus many more .
The STATION project is S.M Digital Music Channel, a new outlet that will deliver a digital single every week for 52 weeks. Working with artists in and out of the SM label, their idea is to move from one station to another like a train as you enjoy various sounds under one location.
Their first artist for the channel was SNSD’s Taeyeon, with EXO’s D.O following after. SM first started advertising that they were bringing in a new artist and a new producer through a map they posted on their social media.
A couple days later they teased fans with pictures of an orchestra and sheet music.
What really sealed the deal was the behind-the-scenes image of the hip-hop goddess herself, Yoon Mi Rae being shown singing in a studio. Mi Rae is known for her amazing R&B vocals and her stunning rap flow. Being a part of MFBTY with her husband, Tiger JK, and their label mate, Bizzy, Mi Rae has over two decades in the business and has been recognised countless times for her wonderful work as a solo artist, a member of the hip-hop trio, and lending her voice to numerous soundtracks.
‘Because Of You’ was filmed in an unconventional way. The orchestra and the singer were in two different countries while filming simultaneously for this new single. With Matthew on one end in Los Angeles at The Village studio and Mi Rae on the other in Seoul at SM’s studio, the two video chatted while the recording was underway. It is an amazing piece filmed with emotion and beautifully executed. You really must check it out below!
