The final of the K-drama Producer has aired and I’m not sure how I feel about the drama. Producer centers around the long relationship of two friends Tak Ye Ji played by Gong Hyo Jin and Ra Joon Mo played by Cha Tae Hyun. They been friends since they were kids and even work together at the same television station as show producer. Kim Soo Hyun stars as the cute and awkward rookie Entertainment PD Baek Seung Chan and Lee Ji Eun (IU) stars as the often rude and often misunderstood idol Cindy.
The drama is done in an interesting style of documentary/reality show style mixed with a normal drama. You will be treated to several monologues, confessions, and several back stories as the show progresses. You will also see many cameos by music artists, actors, and other celebrities.
Be warned this drama has many cringe worthy moments of cuteness or embarrassment. You will find yourself relating to several scenarios in the story.
As a former film student I enjoyed the behind the scenes aspect of this drama. It was fun to see some of the methods used in television production and being able to relate that to some of my personal experience on film and television sets.
Overall the story is not too bad and I loved it, but tends to drag in a few episodes. This is a romantic comedy with some cheesy moments and some hysterical moments. You have to check out Baek Seung Chan’s character when he’s had too much to drink. I never laughed so hard. But don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself.
