MONSTA X‘s youngest member I.M has released his latest EP, Off The Beat. With six songs on the tracklist that each tell their own tale, this newest set of songs is a combination of hip-hop, soul, R&B, and bossa/Latin genres. Available on all streaming platforms such as Spotfiy and Apple Music now, this EP is a fresh addition to I.M’s unique and distinguished story-telling.
Showing off both the soloists rap and vocal skills, the title track “LURE” features a catchy beat and Latin-influenced guitar elements. Uniquely combining the soft strums of the guitar with an upbeat hip-hop trap sound, this song expresses the theme of temptation through his sultry lyrics and smooth voice. Next on the tracklist is “Bust it,” another track expressing I.M’s self identity. This song exudes the artists self-confidence, paired with a strong trap sound.
“XO” is next, drawing people in like a relaxing nighttime. “Skyline” features a rhythmic and catchy beat, and is matched with tempting lyrics. “MMI” boasts self-confessional lyrics, and is combined with an upbeat and unique melody, while the final song on the tracklist, “nbdy,” is a song that expresses loneliness and solitude as the singer is faced with someone’s absence.
I.M first debuted as the rapper and maknae of MONSTA X in 2015, and has since shown his growth with the group and through various solo projects such as previous EPs Duality and Overdrive. He still remains a member of the group, though he is now signed with Sony Music Entertainment Korea.
