Thursday nights are usually for resting at home, doing homework, working, or preparing for the weekend. For fans of CNBLUE, however, this past Thursday was spent with the band for the first time in eleven years. Bringing their Voyage into X tour to The Novo in Downtown LA, the quaint venue was filled with fans—known as BOICE—on both floors, armed with lightsticks and ready to sing and dance with the trio.
The show, though thematically filled with blue lighting in all segments suited to their group name, was a true testament to all of the band’s different musical colors and genres. Performing songs both old and new, CNBLUE prepared stages that showed their vocal prowess, their musical instrument talent, their strong stage presence, and their chemistry as a veteran group. Songs ranged from emotional ballads such as “A Sleepless Night (그리운건 그대일까 그때일까),” to songs with more punk rock vibes such as “I’m Sorry.” In particular, the band even performed their song “Wake Up” for ten full minutes. Each time BOICE believed it was over, front man Yonghwa would start up again, creating a cycle reminiscent to SEVENTEEN’s “never-ending Aju NICE.”

Aside from their impressive stages, the night was filled with laughter and joy as a result of the band’s funny personalities and comments. Speaking English for a vast majority of the show, Yonghwa brought out all of his trendy English lingo, describing their performances as a slay, periodt, amongst other commentary. The night started off with the three members saying they were from LA, with Yonghwa declaring he was from Santa Monica or the OC, Jungshin stating he was from The Grove, and Minhyuk revealing he’s cosplaying as a UCLA student and local, and claiming he was born and raised inside The Novo. As the show continued on and the ments grew longer and sillier, fellow members would gently remind each other to continue on with the show, showing off their decade-long friendship and understanding of each other.
Wrapping up the concert with an encore performance of “Can’t Stop” and “Young Forever,” the last part was focused on sentimentality and CNBLUE’s earnest love and appreciation for their BOICE. “Thank you so much for such an amazing night, you were all so beautiful” Yonghwa began first. Minhyuk spoke next, acknowledging the long wait since their previous show: “We promise it won’t be another ten years before we return.” Youngest member Jungshin also chimed in with his a declaration that this night would be unforgettable. “We will remember this night for a long, long time.”
Thank you to CNBLUE and team for allowing Officially Kmusic to attend, and make sure to check out all photos on our Facebook page now!
