Actress Ha Ji Won recently shot a commercial while climbing a cliff in Thailand for outdoor wear. Her cool demeanor impressed the director and the crew.
Ha Ji Won is well known for her role as Gil Ra Im in the popular drama in 2o1o, “Secret Garden,” where she played a stuntwoman. In most of the action scenes, she does her own stunts. She likes to do as many of her own stunts as possible.
In her next role, Cha Hae Joon, who is an oil rig inspector in “Sector 7” from 2011, she performed all of her own stunts.
Before the movie began filming, she worked out for weeks to strengthen herself for the role.
“I have a petite physique,” Won said. “So I concentrated on weight training to prevent my action scenes from looking weak and powerless.” To prepare herself, she spent eight hours a day swimming and lifting weights. She even obtained scuba diving and motorcycle licenses.
Won has decided to make a career out of choosing physically challenging roles.
“My ideal female role model is someone who is not fragile, someone who is independent and charismatic, I want to keep doing action scenes like Angelina Jolie.” said Ha Ji Won.
In her next role, she played a North Korean Special Forces Officer, Kim Hang Ah in the 2012 drama, “King 2 Hearts“. She studied martial arts and performed all the stunts herself.
In her film roles, “Sex is Zero” and “Deulist“, she learned advanced aerobics and Seonmudo, a Korean Buddist martial art, respectively.
For the film, “Miracle on First Street,” she mastered boxing. Then, for the film, “As One,” she went three months being trained by Hyeon Jeong Hwa, the famous tennis player, whom she portrayed onscreen.
Even though she has attained multiple injuries while performing her own stunts, she never let that interfere with her completion of a drama or film.
As she has been inspired by Angelina Jolie, Ha Ji Won is set to inspire a new generation of butt kicking women.
